Hello from Outpost

This is the first post on Outpost — the thing I've been building (and writing about) at the edges of my day job for a while now.

The premise is simple, and it's not new. Fifteen years ago a small group of people on the internet started calling it POSSE: Publish (on your) Own Site, Syndicate Elsewhere. The canonical version of what you say lives at a domain you own. Whatever copies you want on closed platforms are courtesies, not dependencies.

For most of the last decade I think most of us, myself included, got that backwards. The platform was the canonical place. The personal site was the museum. I'd like to flip it.

So this is the first post written on the thing I'm building. The feed lives at /outpost. The RSS is at /feed.xml. The composer and the syndication wiring come next.
